I thought the same thing myself. When I say "Snake Oil Salesman" you know I mean practice management consultant. The very term used to make me sneer. But it's because of what my wife heard that made me willing to trade what I found were very inaccurate ideas and prejudices for a tremendous practice , a ton of fun and just under $1,000,000 in revenue. Let me take you back to a place that seems like ancient history...

 

I began my practice in a small town just North of Seattle. That was back in 1988, when I was certain that I knew all that I needed to know to become the most successful chiropractor.  After all, I had attended business school prior to going to chiropractic college AND I also understood that correcting the upper cervical subluxation was the cornerstone of health. I had all I needed, right?

 

Slow And Sure, But Mainly Slow

 

My practice grew, slowly but surely, mainly slow. I kept saying it takes time to develop the systems, the technique and the experience that is required to become truly successful.  But we did grow, some.  By the time I was in practice five years I was seeing about 50 visits per week.  It was a cash practice and we were collecting 100% of the $80,000 that was being generated on a yearly basis.

 

5 Years In Practice and Only 50 Visits A Week. Ouch!

 

I decided it was time to rev up the engines, so my wife and I agreed to buy a SAM unit and do spinal screenings.  We bought the SAM and jumped right in with some local screenings that were much less successful than we hoped.  It was then that my wife suggested that we attend a SAM training seminar in Las Vegas. It so happened that a Blair Chiropractic Society convention was taking place at the same time so off we went to Las Vegas!

 

What Had He Done To My Wife?

 

Susan (my lovely wife) attended the SAM seminar while I attended the Blair convention.  Each night we would meet and compare notes.  She told me about this guy named Noel Lloyd, who was a practice management consultant and how she thought I would like him.  She said I should consider talking with him. I couldn’t believe my ears!  What had he done to my wonderful wife? When I saw her that morning she was sane, but now I didn’t know who she was. I DID know that I didn’t need a “Snake Oil Salesman” to tell me how to run my practice!

 

When we returned home, Susan informed me that I’d better talk to Dr. Lloyd because she had already signed us up.  Again, I truly could not believe my ears!  OK, I thought to myself, I’ll at least talk to him, if for no other reason than to cancel our contract and get my money back!

 

I Got My Chance To Set The "Snake Oil Salesman" Straight!

 

When I got Noel on the phone, the first thing that I made really clear to him was that there was no way that I would ever compromise my principles to build a practice. He listened patiently.  And then slowly, gently and with great care he began to tell me about what he had to offer and how I could benefit from his program. This was not what I was expecting at all. What he said made sense and in a way I deep down wanted it to. I decided to give it a try.

 

What Happened Since Then Is A Miracle!

 

Now, here it is, seven years later.  I remained a client all these years.  You may ask why I would do that.  Well let me try to explain.  The first year with Five Star, we tripled our practice.  Today, there are three Health First Chiropractic offices, (our clinic name) all upper cervically based, and we will generate just under $1,000,000 dollars in collections this year.  Not only do I have three Associates working with me now, I have had three others who’ve trained with me and now have their own successful practices.  Each of these offices is based on the procedures, policies and success secrets that I learned from Five Star specially adapted to fit the upper cervical practice.

 

I have one Associate that just hit his 300.

Our best aggregate week is 803 visits!
