"Same City, But An Entirely Different World" Or, "How I now work half as much seeing 10 times the patient volume!"
"I received my Pennsylvania state license on February 30, 2000. I paid my malpractice insurance premium the same day. I made house calls with a portable table, a cell phone and business cards that I printed myself. I waited tables to pay the rent until I found an office space I could afford. I constructed my own build out complete with two flat tables and a desk in a one-room office on the twelfth floor of a skyscraper in the center of the city of Pittsburgh. I opened for business in June 2000.
I borrowed fifteen thousand dollars from my mother and quit waiting tables. My overhead was so low that I made a profit every month I was open. I was my own chiropractor, I was the best adjuster in the city and all I had to do was help one person and my practice would grow exponentially. I knew if I just kept the doors open, the patients would stampede through pushing and shoving to get in. Well, a year later, I was still only consistently seeing ten to twelve patient visits per week, the money my mother lent me was gone, no other lender would give me any money and I could barely pay the rent or buy food. I didn’t even know if chiropractic worked anymore.
Throughout that year, I had many conversations with Dr. Lee Newman. I knew one of his associates and I was astounded by her success. With Dr. Lee’s guidance, I became aware that I was trying to reinvent the wheel; I was attempting to create a practice model, which had already been developed, tested and proven by many chiropractors before me. I wanted to learn that model so I went to work with Dr. Newman in July 2001. Lee prepared a floor plan for our new office and we built out a space two blocks from my old office on the thirteenth floor of another skyscraper. The new office opened in August 2001.
At the end of the first month, I was seeing 50 patient visits per week. I saw 100 patient visits per week in the third month and this is now my seventh month and I have seen 130 patient visits per week consistently for the past two months. That's 10 times what I was doing and literally half the work.
The fact is I'm so excited it doesn't feel like work at all. I expect to see 200 patient visits per week within the first year of the new practice opening. I am out in the community every day telling as many people as I can about our chiropractic mission. I'm not only satisfied and fulfilled, but I'm having more fun than I ever thought possible. My chiropractic dreams have come true and I am living the American dream. But here's the best part, my patients can see the difference too and they love it. I have an entire wall full of patient testimonials and my referrals are building.
So what's the secret? Dr. Lee and Five Star Management have not only showed me a better "wheel" than I was trying to invent, but also supplied the motivation that enabled me to accomplish my goals. It's the same city, but an entirely different world! Thank you Dr. Lee and Five Star!
